Message to my Students

I thought the people who read my blog might enjoy the message I sent to my students over Christmas Vacation.

Dear everyone:

This is a note to let all of you know that I’m thinking of you.

I often talk and blog about the process of getting all 165 of you to understand physics, solve some truly challenging problems, feel that you can be successful, and motivate you to put in the effort that it takes to get yourself there and feel good about it. Some of you rise to the challenge gladly, others reluctantly. However, I am honored by the fact that all of you do manage to rise to it one way or the other.

I realize that for some of you, that willingness to work comes from a level of belief and trust that you’re not used to. I understand that this is a fragile situation, and that it depends on my continuing to maintain an environment where your efforts continue to lead to successes that you can continue to trust and believe in. I remain committed to holding up my part of the bargain. I also promise that I will continue to be there to help, encourage, and cheer you on beyond the end of the 2012-13 school year.

Thank you for making mine one of the best and most rewarding jobs in the world!

Enjoy the rest of your vacation. I’ll see you in January.
