Formal Observation Feedback

I got my formal observation report back from my department head yesterday.  My department head once reassured me that “No one but me will ever see your formal observation write-ups.”
Formal Observation Report, 1/29/08
[Summary of the Class]

Commendable Features:

  • The investigation was uniquely designed to investigate a specific property of compounds and was an example of a genuine investigation.
  • The strategy of having students do their own pre-lab write-ups seems to work as evidenced by how well-prepared the students were.
  • Mr. Bigler was able to recognize when individual students had run into an obstacle and was able to help them by figuring out a solution rather than giving them a solution.
  • Materials and equipment were organized so as to allow the investigation to proceed smoothly.

Suggestions for Improvement

  • Except for more processing time, which was not under your control, I can not see how this lesson could realistically be improved.

Unfortunately, as my department reassured me, “No one but me will ever see your formal observation write-ups.”
